Haven Primary School was VPM’s first project, which started in 1997. The school provides nursery and primary education which is open to all children in Korogocho’s slums.  As well as meeting educational needs, the project also provides a feeding programme and acts as a rehabilitation centre for destitute children, orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDs.

V.P.M. Haven Primary School provides education to Korogocho slum children who are either orphans or destitute children rescued from the dumpsite of Korogocho, or come from extremely poor families. The school has ten classes in two sections: (i) pre-school three classes - baby class, nursery and pre-unit, and (ii) primary section which has Standard 1 to Standard 8 and our first standard 8 class did their first KCPE in 2014 and all passed and joined high school. The school limits the number of the enrolment because the size of the school is small.

The School has nine qualified teaching staff, who are working so hard to impart knowledge to their children.

Most of our children are from single mothers, victims of HIV/AIDS who cannot afford to pay school fees for their children.

Our school feeding programme feeds the hungry stomachs of the pupils at Haven school each day. We provide daily porridge to all our pupils at 10am, and a lunch of maize and beans, ugali and vegetables interchangeably. Many children rely on this food for their daily upkeep otherwise they could starve. This food also makes them to come to school without fail to enjoy our delicious meals.

Thanks: We are grateful to all those who have supported the school in so many ways over the years, and to the sponsors of the feeding programme.
