Vision Peoples in Mission orphanage continues to be a refuge for many Korogocho children who are being rescued from garbage dump scavenging for valuables, glue sniffing and substance abuse. Since the expansion of the orphanage, we now have 43 orphans, increasing from 20. The grants from Epsom Baptist Church, VPM UK Trustees in England and St Annes London Ontario Canada boosted the construction up to where it has reached.
A typical day during the school week would be something like:
7:00am Get up. Breakfast of tea and cornflour
porridge or bread.
7:30am Walk 1km to school to be there for 8 o’clock.
8:00am School day starts. Lessons.
4:30pm School finishes and walk back to Lucky Summe
.
5:00pm Play outdoor games
6:00pm Cup of tea and do homework
7:00pm Supper of ugali & different things;
Then stories or games
8:00pm Bedtime.
On Saturdays they have a free day and have plenty of time to play outdoor games. We try to allow them to be children and have freedom to play. On Sundays they wake up at 8am and have breakfast ready for Sunday School which begins at 9am. They stay at church until after the main service at 12:30pm; when they return to Lucky Summer.
The New Orphanage
The new orphanage is being built, and has been constructed completing the ground, first and second floor. The third floor is not yet completed - this is the roofing floor. VPM has decided to build the 3rd floor so we can start housing VPM staff.
The ground floor is occupied by offices, the kitchen and dining hall. The first floor is for the boys, and the second floor is occupied by girls. Our vision for the orphanage is to help as many orphans in Korogocho as possible to give them a hope and a future. To attain this goal, we need more finances to complete the orphanage.
We sincerely thank the Epsom Baptist Church and VPM UK Trustees for their generous contributions towards this project. We also thank Friends of Nairobi (FON)< the Rogers family through Bethany Dream, all from St Annes Anglican Church, Ontario, Canada for their support and commitment.
